JK’s Management
JK’s Management is a South Wales-based acting agency representing both children and adults with a focus on television, film and commercials.
Rooted in the Valleys, we are proud to champion Welsh talent and provide personal representation for performers across Wales. We deliberately keep our books small so we can give every client the time, attention and support they deserve.
Because of this, we only open our books once a year – in January and unfortunately we are unable to accept every application.
Applicants must be based in Wales.
To apply, keep an eye on our socials where we announce out January open books dates and email [email protected] with the below as external links (please don’t attach large files to your application- we do love wetransfer):
- A current CV or Spotlight link
- Two recent colour headshots
- A short introduction video (.mp4 or .mov) telling us a little about yourself, including hobbies and interests
- A short showreel or monologue
Even if we feel we may not be the right fit, we are always happy to recommend other agencies where possible.
Please keep an eye on our social media pages for updates on when submissions are open.
Working in Television, Film & Commercials
Working professionally in television, film and commercials can be incredibly rewarding, but it is also a competitive industry that requires commitment, flexibility and resilience.
At JK’s Management, we believe in being honest about the realities of the industry so performers and families know exactly what to expect.
Travel & Availability
The majority of castings still take place in London, often at very short notice. While we occasionally receive opportunities in Cardiff and Bristol, most auditions are based outside Wales.
Before applying, performers should consider:
- Are you able to travel at short notice?
- Can you make yourself available during weekdays if required?
- Are you able to keep filming dates flexible if pencilled for work?
Availability is one of the most important parts of securing auditions. Casting directors and agents often work to extremely tight deadlines, and opportunities can appear with less than 24 hours’ notice.
Travel costs are not usually covered, particularly for first-round auditions, so applicants should be aware of the financial commitment involved in attending castings.
Self-Tapes
Many first-round auditions are now completed via self-tape, which can be a huge advantage for performers based in Wales.
A self-tape should always be treated as professionally as an in-person audition:
- Use good lighting
- Learn scenes thoroughly
- Read the brief carefully
- Match the style requested by casting
Modern smartphones are perfectly suitable for filming high-quality self-tapes.
Please send tapes directly to your agent rather than contacting casting directors yourself. We will handle submissions professionally and ensure everything is sent correctly. We expect all our clients to know the basics of self taping and to follow guidance given by the agency.
Rejection Is Part of the Industry
Even highly talented performers hear “no” far more often than “yes”.
Casting decisions are often based on factors completely outside an actor’s control, appearance, height, age, chemistry with other cast members, or changes within production itself.
Not receiving auditions immediately does not mean a performer is being ignored. Roles are incredibly specific, and submissions depend entirely on what productions are searching for at that moment.
Likewise, receiving an audition does not guarantee a recall or booking.
Sometimes performers may be:
- shortlisted,
- pencilled for filming dates,
- sent scripts,
- or even offered roles,
only for productions to change direction or be cancelled entirely. Unfortunately, this is a normal part of the industry and completely outside of the agency’s control.
Keeping Profiles Updated
Keeping profiles accurate and up to date is extremely important.
Please let us know about:
- changes in appearance or sizing,
- new skills or hobbies,
- sports, dance or musical abilities,
- accent work,
- licences or specialist training,
- and updated headshots or recent photographs.
The more accurate a profile is, the easier it is for us to submit performers for suitable roles.
Commission & Payments
Like most professional agencies, JK’s Management works on a standard commission basis.
We take 20% commission from professional work secured through the agency.
There are:
- no “joining packages”
- no unnecessary admin fees
- and no pressure to spend hundreds of pounds on photographs before starting out.
We strongly encourage performers and parents to be cautious of agencies heavily advertising “MODELS WANTED” campaigns or charging large upfront fees disguised as “packages”. Do your research when applying to any agency- monthly fees are not standard practise and shouldn’t be considered the norm.
Professional headshots are important, but they do not need to cost a fortune.
Spotlight
Spotlight is the UK’s leading casting platform and is an excellent tool for performers seeking professional screen work.
Membership currently costs approximately:
- £120 per year for children
- £159 per year for adults
Monthly payment options are also available. This is the only payment that is a necessity and the payment should always go to Spotlight directly- not to the agent.
Information for Parents of Child Performers
There is a big difference between a child enjoying drama classes and a child working professionally within television and film.
For children, success in the industry relies heavily on the support, flexibility and commitment of parents or guardians.
Parents should carefully consider:
- travel commitments,
- short-notice auditions,
- time away from school,
- and the emotional resilience required within such a competitive industry.
Children can audition brilliantly and still not be selected for reasons completely outside their control. Rejection is a normal part of the business, and younger performers can sometimes find this difficult.
Child Performance Licences
Children under 16 (or over 16 but still completing GCSEs) will require a performance licence for professional work.
These licences are usually arranged by the agency or production, but parents will need to:
- provide school permission,
- complete medical declarations,
- and sign the relevant paperwork.
Most councils require between 7–21 days for processing.
We have had very positive experiences working with schools across South Wales, who are often extremely supportive of young performers balancing education with professional opportunities.
Our Approach
At JK’s Management, we care deeply about maintaining a supportive, honest and personal environment for our clients.
We are proud to represent Welsh performers and help bring talent from our valleys and communities onto screens across the UK and beyond.
Because we intentionally keep our books small, spaces are very limited and we cannot accept every applicant.
